Whiskeyface is an indie rock band from Edmonton AB consisting of principal songwriter and guitarist Garrett Craigs, bass guitarist Frank D. Pirker (Wild Dogs/Cocaine Eyes) and one-armed drummer Steven James. They formed in August of 2009, and have been playing shows in Edmonton on a regular basis which has built them a strong local following.
Garrett and Steve were friends that started playing music together after Garrett's previous band broke up in 2007 and Steve was learning to play drums, several years after his arm got ripped off in a paint mixer. They soon developed a unique sound, blending heartfelt songwriting and deft, melodic guitar playing with a unique, syncopated and aggressive drumming style that utilized a drumstick and a detachable hook. With the addition of Frank Pirker's soul/jazz/psychedelic bass after the breakup of his previous band 'The Wild Dogs', Whiskeyface was born.
Whiskeyface has a sound built on solid songwriting and melodic, subtle arrangements in the tradition of bands like Built to Spill, Modest Mouse, Pavement, with some twang thrown in for good measure. What they lack in appendages they make up for in spirit and harmonic tension. They play hard and loud and they are coming to your town.
